Drop-in volleyball
Which level am I?
Every drop-in carries one level. It is a promise to everyone on the court about pace and fit, not a test. Read the bullets, pick honestly, show up.

How to pick
- Read the bullets for a level. If you hit every one, you belong there.
- If you hit most but not all → go one level down. Hosts move people up, not down.
- First time with us? Start at Recreational unless you have played club or varsity.
Pick the level where you hit every bullet, not most. Unsure → go one down. Hosts move you up if the fit is off → nobody gets benched for guessing low.
Level 1 of 5
Beginner
New to the game or back after a long break. Here to learn.
What we expect
- Learning the rules: three touches, rotation order.
- Serve underhand or working on overhand, both fine.
- Passing platform still forming, shanks are normal.
- Rallies are the win, not kills.
- Regulars coach on the fly.
Level 2 of 5
Recreational
Knows the game, plays for fun.
What we expect
- Knows rules and rotation without prompting.
- Serve clears the net most of the time, any style.
- Passes toward the middle, basic set.
- Three touches when it works.
- Standing swing or tip, no blocking expected.
Level 3 of 5
High Recreational
Consistent fundamentals, starting to run plays.
What we expect
- Overhand serve lands reliably.
- Passes to target, sets a hittable ball left or right.
- Approach and swing, occasional block.
- Knows setter, middle, outside and can run a loose 4-2 or 6-2.
- Calls the ball, covers, longer rallies.
Level 4 of 5
Intermediate
Runs a system at pace.
What we expect
- Runs a 5-1 and reads the other setter.
- Plays at least two positions, not just a favourite.
- Full approach, hits from the pins and the middle, picks line or cross.
- Blocks with purpose, digs around the block.
- Tough float or jump serve.
- Serve-receive formations, transitions to base.
Level 5 of 5
Competitive
Club, varsity, college speed.
What we expect
- Full systems: serve-receive patterns, blocking schemes, quick sets, back-row attacks.
- Clean mechanics, high tempo, every rally.
- Hosts balance sides and will turn away a mismatch.
- Not a learning environment.
Hosts have the final say
Hosts will move you if the fit is off → nobody gets benched for guessing wrong. Guess high on purpose and you may be asked to sit, so guess honest.
